Liverpool keeper Danny Ward seeks showdown talks with Jurgen Klopp after Watford selection snub

Welshman was key to Huddersfield promotion last season and Terriers boss David Wagner is keen to take him back this term

LIVERPOOL keeper Danny Ward wants showdown talks with boss Jurgen Klopp after being left out of the squad for their Premier League opener at Watford.

The Welsh international helped Huddersfield gain promotion last season while out on loan, but failed to make the bench at Vicarage Road with Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius preferred ahead of him.

Ward was Huddersfield's promotion hero in May by making important penalty shoot-out saves in both the Championship play-off semi-finals and final.

Terriers boss David Wagner tried to take Ward back for another loan stint this season – but his request was knocked back by his pal Klopp, suggesting Ward might be pushing for first-team action this year.

The 24-year-old watched on as Mignolet put in another unconvincing display and was at fault for Watford’s late equaliser in the 3-3 draw.

Huddersfield are keen to take him back this season - with Ward anxious to know if staying at Anfield will be a wasted year as third-choice goalkeeper.

The Yorkshire side brought in Danish stopper Jonas Lossl on loan from Mainz, but it is uncertain how he will cope with the demands of a full Premier League campaign.

Klopp is adamant he wants three senior goalkeepers at his disposal with Liverpool back in Europe and looking to mount a title challenge.

However, despite rejecting his close friend's advances for Ward this summer, a loan deal could still be thrashed out before the transfer deadline on August 31.

If Klopp allows the deal to go through he could insert a recall clause in case Mignolet or Karius are crocked while Ward is on loan.
