Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho reveals Luke Shaw and Ashley Young set for injury return for Under-23s against Swansea
Mourinho declares that the two absentees will return much quicker than first anticipated.
MANCHESTER UNITED pair Luke Shaw and Ashley Young are set to feature in an Under-23s match against Swansea this Monday.
Jose Mourinho announced injury boost in a press conference, ending worries over an October return.
Shaw picked up an ankle ligament injury during Man United’s 1-1 draw with Swansea City last season, while Young suffered a groin injury that required surgery during a 1-0 win over Celta Vigo in the Europa League semi-final first leg four days later.
Both players travelled with the squad to America in the pre-season tour to continue their rehabilitation as part of the squad.
They have returned to full training in the last week, and will see the upcoming match as a chance to impress the United boss.
Mourinho told MUTV: "Everybody is fine. The next week, on Monday, in the Under-23s game, Luke Shaw and Ashley Young are playing their first minutes of competition this season.
"It is like a pre-season match for them. But it is good news because, when they can play with the Under-23s, it is because the last week they trained with us all week so they are both coming [back]."
Fans will be excited with the prospect of 22-year-old Luke Shaw's reintroduction into the side, with constant setbacks cutting off consistent football for the attacking left-back.
After facing the fiery wrath of Jose Mourinho last season, it will be interesting to see if Shaw is reintegrated straight back into the side, with his unquestionable talent suggesting a promising career if he can stay in his manager's plans.
Young will add helpful versatility for United, and has been praised by Mourinho - despite the manager admitting to prefer 'specialists' over versatility.
His experience and likeable personality will be an asset to an already contented squad, who are looking to mount a serious title challenge.
