PEP CALM ON EVANS

Jonny Evans to Manchester City: Pep Guardiola insists he’s not bothered if he cant land West Brom defender

City chief says he will gladly work with what he's got if club can't land further signings in the summer window

PEP GUARDIOLA insists he is more than happy to stick with the players he has if he cannot bring anyone to the Etihad before the end of the window.

The Manchester City boss is determined to strengthen his squad with a new centre back, but has been knocked back with an £18 million bid for West Brom's Jonny Evans.

Yet he is equally adamant that the players already at the club are more than up to the job, if he continues to miss out.

Guardiola said: “Evans is a player for West Brom, Tony (Pulis) was clear on that.

"We tried to build the best squad as possible, it’s a long season, so we’re going to see how the market finishes.

“But if we have to stay with the players we have right now, then we’re happy – just as if someone comes then we’re happy too.

“I know what the club wants. And we try to do our best. Sometimes that’s possible, sometimes not.”

Everton have spent well this summer and will give City a really tough time at the Etihad.

The difference between the sides though will be up top. The Toffees have failed to adequately replace Lukaku, while the Citizens boast Aguero and Jesus who I believe will both score. Get on City to win 2-0 at 11/2.

City got through a potentially tricky opener at Prem new boys Brighton with the minimum of fuss, and face Everton at home on Monday.

Whether he has brought in any new faces by then or not, his defensive ranks will be boosted by the return of Kyle Walker.

The £50 million full back missed the Brighton win as partner Annie is due to give birth, yet is available for the Etihad clash.
