Juventus join Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City in hunt for Virgil van Dijk as they look to replace Leonardo Bonucci

Dutchman want to leave Southampton, having handed in a transfer request, but Saints won't be bullied into summer sale

JUVENTUS have joined the hunt for Virgil van Dijk, according to reports in Italy.

The Dutchman has handed in a transfer request at Southampton, and is a target for Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City.

And Gazzetta dello Sport now report Juventus have joined the mix as they continue their search for a replacement for Leonardo Bonucci.

Van Dijk has been one of the main protagonists of this summer transfer window, with plenty of suitors.

However, Southampton have been playing hardball so far and are refusing be bullied into letting him leave.

Juventus have made a new centre-back their No 1 priority after Bonucci joined AC Milan — and Giorgio Chiellini, 33, and Andrea Barzagli 36, enter the twilight of their careers.

Ezequiel Garay looked certain to arrive once Valencia sealed a deal for Arsenal centre-back Garbiel.

However, the Serie A giants are struggling to get it over the line.

Van Dijk’s fellow countryman, Stephan de Vrij is another alternative.

But Lazio are unlikely to want to sell, having lost Wesley Hoedt — ironically to the Saints.

Liverpool and Chelsea will no doubt be keeping an eye on developments, but City appear to have moved on, making an £18million bid for Jonny Evans.
