The 20-year-old made his Premier League debut against Newcastle on the opening day  of the season, turning in an impressive display in the 2-0 win at St James' Park.

And manager Mauricio Pochettino has put his faith in the youngster coming through and becoming a regular part his first-team squad this season.

Tottenham had been chasing a new right-back after selling Kyle Walker to Manchester City for £50million earlier in the summer.

But such has been the progress Walker-Peters has made over the last few months, Spurs may well decide against bringing in a new player in favour of trusting Walker-Peters to do the job.

Kieran Trippier is now regarded as the first choice right-back at the club, with Walker-Peters as his understudy.

And his displays over pre-season and in the win at Newcastle look to have convinced Pochettino he does not need to sign anyone else in that position.

Walker-Peters has made huge progress at Spurs over the past year, impressing the coaching staff with his displays with the development squad.

He also shone on the international stage, playing a key role in the England side who won the under-20 World Cup over the summer.

The defender has returned from the break in confident form and his displays in training and friendlies in pre-season have been enough to convince Pochettino he is worthy of a place in the first- team squad.

Spurs boss Pochettino has only made one new signing so far over the summer, capturing Davinson Sanchez in a £40million deal last week.
