Flat on their Arsenal

Arsenal fans don’t have the slightest thing to look forward to this season… and we’re only two weeks in

Hats off to the shower who shamed the club at Anfield on Sunday... at least they haven't given the fans false hope again

IT’S the time of year when Arsenal fans are usually thinking “maybe this season.”

You know the drill. Impressive start, even more impressive football, and the dare-to-dream belief of a genuine title challenge.

Then a dip after Christmas, an even bigger one in March, and ultimately celebrating fourth as if it’s first – at best - as another campaign ends with shattered hopes.

So hats off to the shower who shamed the club at Anfield yesterday... at least they’ve cut to the chase straight away this time.

Two weeks in, and not a Gunners fan in the land with the slightest thing to look forward to.

The supporters’ hearts are a perfect match for the players in the shirts – both hopeless.

It wasn’t the loss, nor the size of it, at Liverpool. Plenty of teams will have four put past them when Jurgen Klopp’s men are in that mood.

But none of them will erect the “this way to goal” signs that Arsenal’s whimps did yesterday.

Quite simply it was disgusting. Shameful. Pitiful. Gutless. Heartless. Choose an insult and add it here…they deserve them all.

And as you watched that car crash of a performance, one thing stood out more than anything – no-one out there really seemed to care THAT much.

Yes, there was a lot of throwing hands in the air, shaking of heads, looking to the ground as Liverpool sliced through again.

The TV cameras picked that up lads, don't worry. But none of us believed it was anything more than playing to the gallery.

But where was the passion? Where was the hurt? Where was the anger?

Arsenal sides with the likes of Tony Adams, Steve Bould, Patrick Vieira, Martin Keown all had their off days. They were all on the wrong end of results at some stage.

Yet when they did lose, at least the fans knew the players were as sick as they were. And they would have gone down fighting.

If any team containing Adams or Keown, say, had turned in a display like that, they’d have been hosing the blood off the dressing room walls for a week.

They’d have had the non-tries by the throat. Screaming that it wasn’t acceptable. Not in THEIR team, THEIR Arsenal.

For the dregs we saw going through the motions on Merseyside, it was simply just another payday.

A case of “let’s move on, at least we’ve got an international break to get us away from the flak for a while.” Pathetic.

Those such as Alexis Sanchez – grinning on the bench while the season was already crumbling around him, for heaven’s sake – and Alex Oxlade-Chamblerlain should be wary.

They may want out, but why would you want to buy someone whose character is so flawed?

About as appealing as the prospect of signing for Arsenal is right now, for targets such as Thomas Lemar, in fact.

There’s a famous saying from Confucius which goes: “Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we do.”

If that’s the case, then Arsenal can expect to spend the season on their knees, because there certainly ain’t no glory coming any time soon.
