Will Chelsea sign Danny Drinkwater and Ross Barkley? And will Diego Costa finally move?

Will it live up to the drama of the 2011 window?

Don't forget, that saw Fernando Torres join Chelsea in a British record £50million deal while Liverpool splashed that and more to sign Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez.

As the deadline looms, our friends at Football Whispers remember 10 of the best deadline day signings ever.

Ten of the best-ever Premier League deadline day signings

Claude Makelele to Chelsea - September 1, 2003

THE French midfielder became vital after joining the Blues from Real Madrid at the start of the Roman Abramovich reign, redefining the holding midfield position which became known as ‘the Makelele role’.

His move was felt at Real, too, where midfield maestro Zinedine Zidane lamented the sale of the French international.

He said: "Why put another layer of gold paint on the Bentley when you are losing the entire engine?"

Carlos Tevez to West Ham - August 31, 2006

PART of one of the most shocking deadline day deals ever, Argentine forward Tevez signed on a permanent basis for an undisclosed fee from Corinthians with countryman and midfield enforcer Javier Mascherano.

The pair struggled initially but Tevez eventually shone, scoring the goal to keep the Hammers up.

West Ham were hit with a sizeable fine when it was later discovered the South American stars were owned by a third party.

Wayne Rooney to Manchester United - August 31, 2004

SIGNED from Everton for £25.6m, a record for a teenager at the time, Rooney had to wait for his debut thanks to injury.

But when it finally arrived he marked it in style, scoring a stunning hat-trick against Fenerbahce in the Champions League.

In 13 years at the club the forward won 16 major honours, became captain and the club’s all-time leading scorer, overtaking Sir Bobby Charlton’s long-standing record. He re-joined the Toffees this summer.

Luis Suarez to Liverpool - January 31, 2011

SUAREZ joined from Ajax for £22.8m on the same day Andy Carroll arrived for what was then a club-record £35m from Newcastle United.

But it was the Uruguayan who became an Anfield hero after a slow start in which he scored just four times in 13 outings before the end of the season.

He was the player who dragged the Reds to a title challenge in 2014 before leaving to join Barcelona.

Dele Alli to Spurs - February 2, 2015

IT'S still something of a mystery that Spurs only parted with a bargain £5m to sign Alli from MK Dons.

Alli remained with the League One side until that summer but immediately established himself as a key member of Mauricio Pochettino’s side despite only previously playing in League One.

He as won consecutive Young Player of the Year awards in the past two seasons.

Ashley Cole to Chelsea - August 31, 2006

ANOTHER player who really should have cost more than the £5m it took to sign him from Arsenal in a swap deal with William Gallas, Cole had been desperate to leave Highbury.

At Stamford Bridge, Cole became the best left-back in the country and, for a time, the world.

His ultra consistent displays made him a staple of Jose Mourinho’s great Chelsea sides and he only left in 2014.

Marouane Fellaini to Everton - September 2, 2008

THE big-haired Belgian was virtually unheard of when he joined for a whopping £15m from Standard Liege at a time when Everton were unable to splash the cash like they can today.

But David Moyes had clearly seen something in the midfield wrecking ball and he soon became one of Everton’s most important players.

So much so that Moyes paid £27m to take Fellaini to Manchester United with him in 2013.

Javier Mascherano to Liverpool - January 31, 2007

AFTER struggling at West Ham, with Alan Pardew bizarrely preferring Hayden Mullins, the Argentine enforcer joined Liverpool on loan 18 months later.

Finally able to show what he could do, the tenacious Argentine midfielder shone alongside Steven Gerrard and Xabi Alonso in Rafa Benitez’s midfield and the move was later made permanent.

He joined Barcelona in 2010 and has since become a fine centre-back.

Hugo Lloris to Spurs - August 31, 2012

SIGNED for just £8m from Lyon, the French keeper initially struggled to displace Brad Friedel and there was even talk he might return to Ligue 1 following his move.

But Andre Villas-Boas had a plan and gradually phased out the American to make room for Lloris.

The stopper has thrived since, becoming Spurs’ first choice, captain and one of the most reliable keepers in the Premier League.

Virgil van Dijk to Southampton - September 1, 2015

THE Dutch defender had outgrown Scottish football with Celtic when Southampton took a punt two summers ago to sign the stylish centre-half for £13m.

Van Dijk took to the Premier League immediately and has been the Saints’ best player since trading Parkhead for St Mary’s.

He could be involved in another deadline day deal if he is finally allowed to join Liverpool.
