Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain swaps Arsenal for Liverpool while Swansea loan in wonderkid Renato Sanches: With a record £1.36bn spent in this summer’s transfer market, SunSport checks out the winners and losers at wheeling and dealing

IT'S the day that leaves many a football fan tearing their hair out in despair.

But transfer deadline day can also lead to joyous celebration that your favourite team has spent big on that crucial world class player to add to the ranks.

Transfer fees have reached an all-time high - thanks in part to Neymar's record-breaking £198million move from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain blowing open the market.

As the window slammed shut at 11pm last night (Thursday), there were contrasting fortunes for teams in the Premier League.

And it's Watford fans who are the happiest - with a whopping 94 per cent of them delighted with how Marco Silva has conducted business, according to a Voice of the Fans poll for SunSport.

Not far behind were Huddersfield supporters, with 92 per cent impressed with how David Wagner has adapted his squad to the rigours of Premier League football.

But the same can't be said of Arsenal's fans, with a mere 15 per cent happy with Arsene Wenger's work over the summer.

Even worse apparently is Frank de Boer's early work in the Selhurst Park hotseat. Only ten per cent were pleased with Crystal Palace's dealings.

SunSport runs down each team's net spend and how well they did in their wheeling and dealing this season.

Manchester City £147m

THEY GOT: City needed a huge defensive overhaul and added three top full-backs as well as a new keeper. Bernardo Silva will give Pep Guardiola something a bit different going forward.

THEY MISSED: Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez would have been the cherry on the top of a very tasty looking cake.

VERDICT: Disappointing deadline day but landed most major targets.

Man United £136m

THEY GOT: Romelu Lukaku filled the hole left by Wayne Rooney and injured Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has since re-signed. Added Victor Lindelof, plus Nemanja Matic to reunite with boss Jose Mourinho.

THEY MISSED: Antoine Griezmann and Alvaro Morata, plus Ivan Perisic from Inter and Chelsea ace Willian.

VERDICT: Missed some targets but a good window for Jose.

Liverpool £71m

THEY GOT: Mohamed Salah, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Dominic Solanke and Andrew Robertson.

THEY MISSED: It was more a case of keeping players for Liverpool, who are closer to victory in their Philippe Coutinho battle with Barcelona.

VERDICT: Jurgen Klopp’s men are flying despite the Coutinho saga — and £34.3million Salah looks a steal after three goals in five games.

Chelsea £58m

THEY GOT: Alvaro Morata, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Antonio Rudiger and back-up keeper Willy Caballero.

THEY MISSED: Snubbed by Romelu Lukaku and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, while Juventus refused all summer to sell Alex Sandro.

VERDICT: Boss Antonio Conte was desperate to strengthen his squad — but a move for Danny Drinkwater went to the wire.

Watford £57m

THEY GOT: Keeper Orestis Karnezis arrived yesterday along with left-back Marvin Zeegelaar and defender Molla Wague joining Nathaniel Chalobah, Andre Gray and Richarlison.

THEY MISSED: Marco Silva’s move for Arsenal full-back Kieran Gibbs collapsed and he joined West Brom.

VERDICT: Karnezis and Wague came in from the owners’ other club Udinese. Welcome to Watford, Marco.

Leicester £49m

THEY GOT: Keeper Eldin Jakupovic, Harry Maguire, Vicente Iborra and, crucially, Kelechi Iheanacho.

THEY MISSED: Failed with a bid for West Brom’s in-demand centre-back Jonny Evans.

VERDICT: Craig Shakespeare will be very pleased with his business. And late last night he was still trying to land Sporting’s Adrien Silva and Leverkusen’s Aleksandar Dragovic.

Everton £47m

THEY GOT: Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane and Gylfi Sigurdsson joined in a record-breaking summer splurge. Forward Nikola Vlasic, 19, came in last night.

THEY MISSED: Genuine replacement for Romelu Lukaku although Wayne Rooney and Sandro Ramirez will give it a go.

VERDICT: Toffees look like they mean business after splashing out.

Huddersfield £36m

THEY GOT: A total of 13 new arrivals for the Terriers. Striker Steve Mounie was a record £11.5m buy, while Tom Ince and Aaron Mooy were other key signings.

THEY MISSED: Izzy Brown snubbed them to join Brighton and a deal for Barnsley’s Andy Yiadom collapsed.

VERDICT: Boss David Wagner will be pleased with his work — and an unbeaten start to the campaign.

Brighton £34m

THEY GOT: Seagulls were looking to break their transfer record for a fourth time last night with Khouma Babacar — but none of the arrivals have Premier League pedigree.

THEY MISSED: Strikers Raphael Dwamena and Renato Neto failed medicals, defender Stefano Denswil’s loan also collapsed yesterday.

VERDICT: Brighton have been busy but it will still be tough to stay up.

Crystal Palace £32m

THEY GOT: Mamadou Sakho for £26million is a big boost at the back. Midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek and fellow loanee Timothy Fosu-Mensah will boost their squad.

THEY MISSED: Frank de Boer tried for Manchester City defender Eliaquim Mangala.

VERDICT: Not nearly enough proven quality to turn around a club struggling under new boss De Boer.

Bournemouth £31m

THEY GOT: Asmir Begovic, Nathan Ake and Jermain Defoe look like good business.

THEY MISSED: Their pursuit of Demarai Gray once more came to nothing. His pace and directness would have given the Cherries more strings to their bow.

VERDICT: Lack of midfield recruits may come back to haunt them after a slightly frustrating window.

West Brom £28m

THEY GOT: Kieran Gibbs, surprise hit Ahmed Hegazi, Gareth Barry, Oliver Burke, plus goalscorers Grzegorz Krychowiak and Jay Rodriguez.

THEY MISSED: An overpriced Troy Deeney at a push, or some other prolific goal-grabber.

VERDICT: West Brom had a stellar transfer window and surpassed all expectations. Take a bow Baggies chairman John Williams.

Southampton £26m

THEY GOT: Mainly Mario Lemina and Wesley Hoedt — but keeping Virgil van Dijk was Saints’ real statement of intent as only fringe players left the club.

THEY MISSED: Talk of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain or Theo Walcott returning was always far-fetched.

VERDICT: Saints kept the big man while doing what looks like decent business. A very good summer.

Newcastle £21m

THEY GOT: Toon’s spine needed reinforcing but wingers Christian Atsu and Jacob Murphy came in instead. New centre-back Florian Lejeune was crocked on his debut.

THEY MISSED: Keeper Willy Caballero on a free and striker Tammy Abraham were the two that really angered boss Rafa Benitez.

VERDICT: Nothing short of disastrous — barely improved since promotion.

Tottenham £13m

THEY GOT: Bolstered the defence with Davinson Sanchez, Juan Foyth and Serge Aurier — plus Paulo Gazzaniga arrived as No 3 keeper.

THEY MISSED: Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino said he would make four outfield signings and did just that.

VERDICT: Last night’s capture of Swans striker Fernando Llorente from under Chelsea’s noses made it a decent window for Poch.

West Ham £16m

THEY GOT: England keeper Joe Hart, £24m club-record signing Marko Arnautovic, striker Javier Hernandez and full-back Pablo Zabaleta.

THEY MISSED: William Carvalho as talks with Sporting Lisbon broke down over price. Barcelona’s Andre Gomes was a late but failed move.

VERDICT: West Ham needed goals but now the defence looks worryingly shaky.

Burnley -£10m

THEY GOT: Three new forwards, with Chris Wood a £15m club-record purchase, while Jack Cork and Charlie Taylor look good additions.

THEY MISSED: No replacement for centre-back Michael Keane.

VERDICT: Keane and Andre Gray will leave big gaps at both ends of the pitch — but early signs are that boss Sean Dyche has bought shrewdly again.

Stoke -£12m

THEY GOT: Mark Hughes focused on defence with Kurt Zouma, plus Kevin Wimmer and Bruno Martins Indi — Paris Saint-Germain loanee Jese was a bonus. Ryan Shawcross also signed a new four-year deal.

THEY MISSED: Failed to seal Man City midfielder Fabian Delph.

VERDICT: Stoke did not have vast sums to spend but boss Hughes has boxed clever to plug the leaks.

Arsenal -£23m

THEY GOT: Striker Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon and left-back Sead Kolasinac on a free.

THEY MISSED: Wanted Kylian Mbappe, while Thomas Lemar and Julian Draxler also failed to arrive.

VERDICT: Total shambles. Arsene Wenger has failed to strengthen after a poor start to the season and sold Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to rivals Liverpool.

Swansea -£29m

THEY GOT: Renato Sanches on loan from Bayern — one of the coups of the window. Wilfried Bony sealed his Swansea return yesterday to join Tammy Abraham, Sam Clucas and Roque Mesa.

THEY MISSED: PSV Eindhoven right-back Santiago Arias and West Brom winger Nacer Chadli.

VERDICT: Sealing Sanches means Swans’ window was a big success.
