Wayne Rooney: My best game in for England was probably a 0-0 draw in Turkey in 2003
Wayne Rooney speaks exclusively to talkSPORT - listen to the full interview at 1pm on Sunday
DESPITE being England’s leading goalscorer, Wayne Rooney reckons his greatest moment was a 0-0 draw.
The striker rates the stalemate against Turkey in 2003 as his best game as the point took him, and the national team, to the European Championships. He said: "It was probably Turkey away when we drew 0-0.
"It was my first time playing in Europe in a big game and we needed a point to qualify for the Euros.
"A big pressure game. That was a good moment, it felt the best." And Roo — who scored 53 goals in 119 internationals — says it is easy to choose his worst moments in a Three Lions shirt.
He added: "Games where we went out of tournaments.
“The Iceland game last year was a disappointment but all of them, when you go out, are never nice."
TalkSPORT’s exclusive interview, with Mark Saggers asking the questions, airs at 1pm today in association with the Wayne Rooney Foundation.
Working with the Foundation, Wayne hopes to raise funds for groups dedicated to helping disadvantaged and vulnerable kids including the NSPCC, Claire House Children’s Hospice and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
