Images of Ayew in an African hospital quickly surfaced on social media, but Swansea will give the 25-year-old time to recover ahead of Sunday's clash with Newcastle.

Liberty Stadium bosses hope Ayew can get back to training in time to prepare to face the Toon.

Ayew has started all four of Swansea's games so far this season, scoring twice.

But should he be unavailable this weekend, deadline day signing Wilfried Bony is likely to step in.

Ayew joined the Welsh side from Aston Villa in exchange for Neil Taylor and £5million last January.

His brother Andre starred for the Swans before moving to West Ham over a year ago.

But Jordan is yet to hit the same heights at the Liberty Stadium.

He’s scored one goal in the opening three games of the new season.

And Ayew will be hoping that new man Bony doesn’t hit the target this weekend as he looks to recover from his bug and reclaim his place in the team.
