Arsenal transfer news: Alexis Sanchez set to join Man City for just £20MILLION in January

Unhappy Gunners ace will be allowed to negotiate with foreign clubs in the New Year but is set to move just north of London

MANCHESTER CITY are unlikely to bid more than £20million for Alexis Sanchez in January.

The Etihad giants saw a £60m move for Arsenal’s Chilean star, 28, fall through on deadline day.

Yet they remain confident Sanchez will be reunited with City boss Pep Guardiola — who he bought from Udinese in 2011 while managing Barcelona — within the next 12 months.

Sanchez will be allowed to negotiate with foreign clubs in the New Year as his Gunners’ contract winds down.

But City could still renew  interest mid-season — particularly if there are injuries to Guardiola’s striking options.

WHEN was the last time Arsenal were the favourites for anything?

But they are determined not to pay over the odds for a player who will be available for nothing in the summer.

Pep will speak to Eliaquim Mangala and Fabian Delph this week to reassure them they still have a part to play.

Both saw moves away from City fall through before the transfer deadline. Delph was a Stoke target while Mangala sparked interest from both Crystal Palace and Inter Milan.

When Guardiola was asked about his interest in the Gunners ace – as well as Jonny Evans and Kylian Mbappe – he said: “Alexis is an Arsenal player.

“Like Mbappe is a Monaco player, like Jonny Evans is a West Bromwich Albion player.

“Normally I don't talk about players from other clubs."

And Arsene Wenger expects his star men to be tapped up again in October when the winter window swings round.

He said: “What’s happening now is that the transfer window is closed. September will be okay.

“The players who are tapped up in October, they already start to think: ‘Where do I go in January?’

“That’s not the way to be on board with the football club. We are here to entertain people.

“You can [only] do that with people who are on board together, with people who want to achieve something together.

"Not with people who, when things don’t go well, think: ‘Where can I go next?’”
