Manchester United fans start campaign to get Taliban torture victim Shahbaz Taseer to Old Trafford
Taseer spoke of how he listened to games during bombing raids and continued to support them when he was kidnapped
A SOCIAL media campaign has snowballed urging Manchester United to invite a Pakistani fan who was tortured by the Taliban to Old Trafford.
Shahbaz Taseer, who is the son of a murdered Pakistani governor, was captured in Lahore in 2011 and only returned to his family in March 2016.
He told how he was flogged, shot and had his nails pulled out by Uzbek tormentors.
But he was able to follow the progress of his favourite football club via a radio one of his guards, a fellow United fan, snuck into his cell.
Taseer said: "It was a window to the outside world. Getting soccer news kept me sane."
And now after he commented on Twitter explaining his difficulties in supporting "his team", one fellow Red Devil has urged their club to act.
Taseer wrote: "I supported @ManUtd while kidnapped in Afghainstan. I even listened to the games during the bombing raids.
"No one can tell me I'm not a Red Devil."

He wrote: "Hey @ManUtd, is there some way we can get Shahbaz to Old Trafford to watch a game? How amazing would that be?"
He then urged fellow fans to retweet the message.
