HATEM BEN ARFA has threatened Paris Saint Germain with legal action after being dumped down with the reserves.

Former Newcastle star Ben Arfa has been left fuming at his treatment by boss Unai Emery which leaves him facing playing in the fourth tier of French football.

Emery has sent him to train with the club's second string after deciding he no longer features in his first team plans.

The 30-year-old is way down the pecking list for a starting role following the transfer window captures of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

But his lawyer has issued a public warning that he will begin legal action against PSG because his treatment breaks French football rules stating players have to be given access to the level of training they are contractually oblige to receive.

Jean-Jacques Bertrand said: "Legally I think the club is violating the Professional Football Charter.

I informed the club by email and advised that we do not accept the situation.

"Depending on the response we will seek action from the league's disciplinary committee."

Bertrand suggested PSG have until Friday to come up with a response or the legal proceedings will begin.

And he dismissed a suggestion from Emery earlier this week that there is still a chance the winger could be called back into the first team squad.

With so many players missing on international duty, several second string players were called up to train and make up the numbers with the first team - but Ben Arfa was not among them.

Bertrand added: "Half of the team were with their national teams and players have been called up from the reserves to complete the group.

"Obviously it is not a problem of overstaffing."

Ben Arfa now faces a year in the wilderness just 12 months after he was a reserve for the French national team squad playing at Euro 2016.
