Eva heard this before?

Diego Costa must grow up and get his backside back to Chelsea… this whole mess has echoes of Eva Carneiro

ANOTHER day, and yet another chapter in the seemingly unending Diego Costa saga…

Finally we thought he was coming back to Cobham to try and put an end to this sorry story.

Next thing you know and there are more pictures of Diego smiling away back in his home town in Brazil.

Then apparently we hear he could be off on loan to Turkey for a while until he can sign for his beloved Atletico in January, then it’s all off but was ‘very close’.

So what happens now?

Costa is still our player, still contracted to us and as a professional should honour that contract.

We know footballers are delicate creatures at the best of times but this kind of overreaction to a text message is taking it a bit too far.

Maybe Diego will end up sleeping in the back of his Land Rover in the reserve team car park until January. Who knows?

What’s certain is that something has got to give, with talk of legal action by the club and Costa saying the same it doesn’t look like simmering down anytime soon, and that’s not good.

It’s got echoes of Eva Carneiro all over again and is threatening to overshadow the start of our season, and maybe longer depending on how long this drags on for.

Look what happened there, the manager fell out with a popular employee and a war of words breaks out, legal action and dirty laundry in the press and everything fell apart in the squad and on the pitch.

The thing is, I like many other supporters love Diego Costa, the guy gives 110 per cent all the time, never stops fighting and if we’re honest, love the way he winds up opponents too.

I’d have the guy back in the squad in a heartbeat, but I’m not the manager, and Diego is Diego.

So what can be done? Well Chelsea has to get a hold of this situation and soon or else it threatens everything else we’re trying to do this season, fining him isn’t working and the abrasive approach just seems to be pushing him further away.

Someone needs to build a bridge between Costa and the club and start to grease the wheels of whatever type of make-up or break up it will be to end this charade.

In previous years you’d think that person would be JT, can you honestly see Gary Cahill giving Diego an earful as JT might of done?

Costa needs to get his backside back to Cobham sooner rather than later for his own good and the club's, and before the high esteem he’s still held in by many supporters’ starts to be replaced with anger and disappointment.

We know you’re going to go Diego, don’t spoil what’s gone before. It’s time to grow up, man up, and get back to work.
