But the Blues legend now wants to move into coaching, and has linked up with former team-mate Jody Morris to work the Chelsea's brilliant under-18s side.

Morris led his side to the FA Youth Cup last season - the fourth successive year the club has won the prestigious trophy.

And he is helping Lampard learn the ropes of his new career by inviting him to the Cobham training ground to put his youngsters through their paces.

With three Premier League titles and a Champions League win to his name, there is plenty Lampard can pass on to the budding hopefuls.

And he has been quick to make his mark by taking sessions with the teenagers who are all hoping to make the grade at Chelsea.

Despite being out of action for the past seven months, the 39-year-old has still not lost his touch as he showed when he took part in a high intensity training drill.

It is the first time he has moved up to work with the under-18s at Chelsea, having helped out with the academy towards the end of his career with the club.

Lampard has made no secret of his desire to move into management over the next few years, believing he has plenty to offer transferring his skills to the coaching side.

In the short term he will combine his work gaining the relevant badges with his role working as an expert pundit for BT Sport.

The Football Association are also keen to tap into Lampard's knowledge, as they look to involve a group of former international players into their own national set-up.
