Arsenal star Jack Wilshere to return to the first-team in the EFL Cup clash against Doncaster Rovers on September 20
Gunners midfielder hasn't played under Arsene Wenger since August 2016 as he aims to break back into the starting XI
JACK WILSHERE is set to return to Arsenal's first-team in the EFL Cup clash against Doncaster Rovers on September 20.
Gunners midfielder, 25, hasn't played under Arsene Wenger since August 2016 as he aims to break back into the starting XI.
Wilshere turned out twice in the Premier League for Arsenal last season, in the 0-0 draw against Leicester and the 3-1 win over Watford - both in August.
After that he spent the season on loan at Eddie Howe's Bournemouth where he racked up 27 top-flight appearances.
However, a broken leg sustained in the heavy 4-0 defeat against Tottenham ended his season early - in April.
Now Wenger is keen to ease Wilshere back into first-team action slowly and let him find his feet again in a more low-key fixture.
The EFL Cup third-round game will take place at the Emirates Stadium on September 20 - and could be Arsenal fans' first glimpse of the local lad this season.
Wilshere has also been named in the Gunners' Europa League squad for the group stage games - with Arsenal taking on Koln on September 14.

Meanwhile, the English midfielder took a swipe at Wenger, replying to an Instagram advert for the Tyrone Mings Academy with a not so subtle dig.
Wilshere replied to the post: "Do you take 25 year olds who can’t get a game? I’m fully fit and ready to go.”
The player himself had rejected an audacious, deadline day swoop from Harry Redknapp's Birmingham this summer.
Now he has been linked with another season-long loan move... this time to Turkish outfit Trabzonspor.
