Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero is now leading non-European goal scorer in Premier League history — overtaking Dwight Yorke’s tally of 123

Etihad icon could have scored goal which will have major implications in title race, and makes more personal history on the way

SERGIO AGUERO has become the leading non-European goal scorer in Premier League history with the opener against Liverpool for Manchester City.

The Argentine made it 1-0 in the 24th minute to put the hosts 1-0 ahead in this early season Titanic tussle.

And, in doing so, scored made it 124 in the Premier League — overtaking Dwight Yorke's record.

Aguero was put through by David Silva and took advantage of some slack Liverpool defending to round Simon Mignolet and open the scoring midway through the first half.

As was all overtaking the former Trinidad and Tobago hotshot's tally, he became the fourth player to scored in six consecutive Premier League home matches against the same side.

The former Atletico Madrid man follows in the footsteps of Alan Shearer (against Everton), Thierry Henry (against Aston Villa) and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink (against West Ham).

Aguero arrived on these shores in the summer of 2011, and showed he was here to score goals with two on his debut.

At the end of the season, he would write himself into football folklore with the title-clinching goal in the final minute of the season.
