Both rapidly chasing down a 50-50 ball, the Liverpool man can be considered unlucky to have been sent-off for the collision.

However, the contact to Ederson's face was a worry, with the former Benfica man stretchered off the pitch and taken to hospital.

Having been quickly patched up, the No1 did return to the stadium to watch the final moments of the big win over ten-man Reds.

Following the clash, Benjamin Mendy posted a snap of his team-mate to Twitter, sporting a dramatic looking injury.

Man City boss Pep Guardiola did confirm that it's not as bad as it appears, with nothing broken - despite early fears regarding his cheek and jaw.

On the incident, Guardiola said: “It was one game at 11 vs 11, it was equal, we both had chances, but the game was equal. Liverpool are so quick and fast.

“After 10 vs 11 it was a little bit easier for us, and we played the second half the way we wanted to. They didn’t do well.

“The game was open until the sending-off. Ederson, the doctor says there is nothing broken. He also saved us in the first half from Mohamed Salah.

“Mane didn’t see him, he was looking at the ball but the impact was huge. I don’t know if it was a red card.

"I didn’t speak about the decision when we had Kyle Walker sent off against Everton so I will not now.”
