The former Burnley stiker complained of discomfort and was replaced after being on the end of a number of hefty challenges.

The 25-year-old is battling back to full fitness after a nightmare two serious knee injuries in two years.

Reds Under-23 boss Neil Critchley gave an update on the club website.

He said: “It's more a precaution than anything, he felt something very early in the game and he wasn't quite right.

“So we're not taking any chances with Danny and there are plenty of first-team games to come.

"We'll just look after him and assess him, but I'm sure he'll be fine."

Ings joined Liverpool in 2015 from Burnley but has suffered with numerous knee injuries, requiring surgery, that have prevented him from reaching his potential under Jurgen Klopp.

The forward enjoyed a good start to life at Anfield under former boss Brendan Rodgers scoring three goals in his first nine games.

The 25-year-old spent the summer working on his rehabilitation following his second ACL problem suffered in the League Cup win against Tottenham last October.
