The Red Devils have already been in contact with the Premier League over a potential safe-standing area.

Supporters groups have also voiced their concerns and are looking at ways on how to increase the volume at the 75,000 all-seater.

A solely-dedicated singing section has been talked about, and flag displays have also proved popular.

A United source said: “Mourinho feels even more can be done to keep the atmosphere more consistent inside Old Trafford.

“The club are looking at further ways to pump up the volume. It’s something the fans and we all want.

“It’s a huge ground and it’s about keeping everyone happy while enhancing the feel and atmosphere for everyone.”

Mourinho described the Old Trafford crowd as being “very quiet” following the 2-0 victory of Leicester.

He said: “It was the first time I listen to the crowd because they were very quiet today.

“It would be easy to know that was a goal because it was the first time I really understand the stadium was full."

United legend Ryan Giggs has also urged an improvement of the atmosphere at the Theatre of Dreams.

He told Sky Sports: “Improving at Old Trafford is going to be vital. With the big games, it's not a problem, the atmosphere is there.

“It's the games where you expect United to win 3-0 or 4-0 and after 20 minutes it's 0-0 when the atmosphere isn't great.

“It's a two-way partnership really. The players have got to excite the fans with a tackle or a shot or somebody taking the opposition on.

“But also the fans, when the team are struggling, need to get behind them.”
