ARSENAL target Karim Benzema is set to sign a bumper new contract at Real Madrid with a £900million buyout clause.

Arsene Wenger has been linked with his fellow Frenchman for a number of years and a potential move was mooted again this summer.

However, claims in Le Journal du Dimanche in the duos homeland have all but ended any hope the Gunners had of buying him.

Benzema, 29, is now about to extend his stay at the Bernabeu as the club look secure the long-term future of the striker.

He is currently under contract until 2019, but he is due to extend that by a further two years.

And should he see out the new deal, that will take his years of service to Madrid to over a decade.

He moved to the Spanish capital from Lyon back in 2009 and has bagged 122 goals in 247 La Liga matches.

Benzema has long been mooted to be a target for a host of sides looking to bolster their forward line.

But no club has ever been able to convince Real to sell up.

Now they want his future sorted before the end of the month.

The report in France also claims that Benzema was offered a move to China back in January.

He would have earned around £45m-a-year at Super League outfit Tianjin Quanjian.

But Benzema was not interested in a switch to the Far East.
