Roy Hodgson handed £40m January war-chest by Crystal Palace to keep them in the Premier League

ROY HODGSON is set to be handed a £40million January war chest by Crystal Palace in a bid to keep them in the Premier League.

According to reports, Eagles chairman Steve Parish is determined to keep the club in the top flight by handing the former England boss the funds to keep them up.

Hodgson looked for assurances from Parish that he would have sufficient funds to put his stamp on the squad.

According to the Star, Hodgson can spend any money he raises by selling unwanted players.

Palace sacked manager Frank de Boer last week after the former Dutch international led the South London club to a run of four defeats in four games in just 77 DAYS in charge.

Parish lost patience with the former Barcelona, Ajax and Rangers midfielder, who initially struggled to make signings in the transfer market.

There were also reports that he had decimated the confidence of some of his players, such as Martin Kelly and Joel Ward.

For Hodgson it has been the opportunity to show he is not a managerial flop, after leading England to an absolutely disastrous exit from Euro 2016, where they lost 2-1 to Iceland.

As SunSport have reported, Jack Wilshere could be a player he turns to after the festive period in a bid to try and keep Palace on track.

The Arsenal midfielder is set to play for the Gunners in tonight's Europa League group stage game against Cologne.

Hodgson, who was born just a hop, skip and jump away from Selhurst Park in Croydon, was excited to be back at his local club.

He said: "This is very much the club of my boyhood and I remember in my youth watching the club from the terraces at the Homesdale Road end which gave me such fond memories.

"In those days I had dreams of playing for the team, then as a coach you think about coaching the team.

"It is very rewarding to find myself here now, in different times, as the Palace manager at a club that I have always loved and admired with a huge potential.

"We are the club of South London, with an enormously large fan base. The ambitions here are realistic and there is enormous potential for growth."
