Manchester United, Inter Milan, Fenerbahce… where Mesut Ozil could end up when his Arsenal contract expires next summer

ON transfer deadline day, all of Arsenal’s focus was on trying to find a replacement for Alexis Sanchez as the Chilean looked to force a move to Manchester City.

The 28-year-old is out of contract next summer and the Gunners could lose a player worth around £50million for nothing.

He’s not the only one though, as German international Mesut Ozil is in the exact same situation.

Reports in Germany suggest that talks between the midfielder and Arsene Wenger broke down in February due to the doubts surrounding the future of the French boss.

Our friends at Football Whispers look at Ozil’s situation and the most likely destination if he chooses to leave Arsenal.

The 28-year-old will be free to talk to any interested clubs come January, and then he can try and find out if anyone is able to offer him the £300,000-a-week he is believed to be demanding.

This is perhaps why there was no deadline day rush to snap up the playmaker.

Coupled with his form over the last 18 months, it’s unlikely Wenger would have been inundated with calls regarding Ozil... but where could he end up?

MOVES to Manchester have been mooted in the past, but in their current state, both City and United have an abundance of attacking midfielders.

Pep Guardiola brought in Bernardo Silva from Monaco early in the summer.

Add him to David Silva, Leroy Sane and Kevin De Bruyne and there is little space for anyone else.

Jose Mourinho has worked with the German in the past, linking up together at Real Madrid.

During their three years together Ozil racked up 47 assists in La Liga. More than he’s contributed during four years at the Emirates.

The midfielder does have Premier League experience, which would suit Mourinho.

But with Juan Mata and Henrikh Mkhitaryan currently in the side, it may take for one of them to leave before the Portuguese boss would consider a move for Ozil.

THE Italian giants were bought over by a Chinese consortium in June 2016 and are still looking for ways to climb back up the Serie A ladder.

A seventh-placed finish last term wasn’t good enough, especially ending the campaign 24 points off a place in the Champions League.

That’s where Inter ultimately want to be, so a pushing for someone like Ozil would make sense.

It would be a huge coup if the Nerazzurri landed the playmaker either in January or next summer.

They already have Mauro Icardi, one of the best goal-scorers in the league.

Teaming him up with a player capable of providing defence splitting passes could be a match made in heaven for the Milan club.

Fenerbahce

ONE of the mostly likely options is that Ozil leaves England for Turkey.

Although born in Gelsenkirchen, he is of Turkish descent and still spends a lot of time in Istanbul.

Fenerbahce have been linked in the past and there would be no surprise to see them come back in for the 28-year-old.

Usually one of Turkey’s most successful clubs, they have missed out on the title for the past three campaigns and have endured a slow start this term.

Ozil would be an instant fan favourite if they were able to lure him across Europe and they could be able to work out a deal with his wage demands due to the location.

With Fenerbahce always on the lookout to try and land big-name European stars to their cause, the playmaker could be the perfect fit and it could be the ideal place for his next step.
