And Arsenal will make the return trip in just over two month’s time on November 23rd.

But loyal Gooners heading over to Germany are planning to do more than just soak up the atmosphere at the RheinEnergieStadion.

Numerous corporate tour companies have already been inundated with requests to extend their trips so fans can enjoy the Christmas market which kicks off four days later.

Millions of people gather to celebrate and enjoy delicious treats including mulled wine, baked apples and cinnamon biscuits.

And a large number of Arsenal supporters don’t want to miss out on the festivities.

There are various different markets, with some boasting live music and others a gigantic ice rink.

But there could be a fairly sombre mood around following last year’s horrific terror attack on the Berlin Christmas market which left 12 people dead and 56 others injured.

Bollards have already been installed around Cologne city centre, while the police presence is sure to have increased following the New Year’s Eve sexual assaults scandal in 2015.
