Virgil van Dijk named in Southampton squad for first time in 237 days as Saints prepare to face Crystal Palace in Premier League clash

Dutch central defender was injured in January before attempting to push through move in Liverpool by handing in transfer request

VIRGIL VAN DIJK has been named in the Southampton squad for the first time in 237 days.

The highly-rated Dutch central defender has been out since picking up an ankle injury in January.

And looked set to leave after he handed in a transfer request over the summer as he tried to force through a move to Liverpool.

However, the summer window came to a close with Van Dijk still at St Mary's.

And now he is back in the squad for the crucial clash with Crystal Palace.

The 26-year-old has not featured since the 3-0 victory over Leicester on January 22.

Saints' clash at Crystal Palace also marks the first match in charge of the Eagles for Roy Hodgson.

The former England boss replaced Frank De Boer last week.
