Jake Livermore opens up about being given time off by West Brom as he reveals he is just tired after busy summer

Midfielder has featured in every game so far after busy summer with England and will be given extra time off by his club

WEST BROM star Jake Livermore has opened up about his absence from the draw against West Ham on Saturday, revealing he was “tired”.

Until last weekend, the former Spurs and Hull man had featured in every game for the Baggies, including the Carabao Cup win at Accrington.

Baggies boss Tony Pulis confirmed the club will give the midfielder a break from football and not run the risk of him “going into a deeper, deeper, deeper hole.”

Pulis added: "We had a chat with Jake at the beginning of the week. Jake came to see me.

"He has felt a little bit jaded, mentally more than anything else.

"We check all of his running stats, and his data, and he had dropped off a bit.

"I think playing all the time has really, really taken it out of the boy."

Livermore will also miss Wednesday’s Carabao Cup tie against Manchester City.

But the 27-year-old took to social media to explain the situation.

He said on twitter: “Just to clarify the club (both management and medical) made the decision it was the right and only time to take a few days off to rest my body.

“I hadn’t had this time in the summer due to international duties and then myself wanting to do a full pre-season with my then new team-mates.

“All is good in the Livermore household but thanks for those who showed concerns.”

It has been a tough few years for the England international who lost his newborn son in 2014 and tested for positive for cocaine a year later.

But former Spurs star Livermore – who was playing for Hull at the time – was not hit with a Football Association ban due to the “unique nature of the circumstances”.

Livermore has five England caps and was called up to Gareth Southgate’s squad for the World Cup qualifying fixtures in June and October.
