Chelsea starlet Ethan Ampadu becomes first millennial to play for Blues as Antonio Conte hands youngster his debut for the Premier League champions

CHELSEA handed a debut to teenage wonderkid Ethan Ampadu - making him the first player born in the 21st Century to play for the Blues.

The 17-year-old midfielder joined the club from Exeter City over the summer and has been fast-tracked to the first-team.

Ampadu, came on for Cesc Fabregas with Chelsea leading Nottingham Forest 4-0 in the Carabao Cup, was born on September 14, 2000.

Already an Under-19 international for Wales, he was included by manager Chris Coleman in the senior Welsh squad back in May for the World Cup qualifier against Serbia.

He is also eligible to play for England, Ghana and the Republic of Ireland.

Ampadu made his senior debut in this same competition aged just 15 years, 10 months and 26 days for Exeter City last season - and was named man of the match.

He made his full League debut a week later and went on to make 13 appearances for the Grecians last season.

The teenager is the son of former Swansea and Leyton Orient player Kwame.

The Blues swooped for the talented teen in July and agreed a professional contract with him.

Chelsea are yet to agree a compensation fee with Exeter for him, however.

By making his Chelsea debut, Ampadu has become one of the 10 youngest players to ever star for the west London club.

Ian Hamilton's 50-year-old record is still to be beaten.

Hamilton played for the Blues aged just 16 years and 138 days in 1967.

Ampadu's appearance at 17 years and six days also made him the youngster man to appear for Chelsea since Michael Woods in January 2007.
