And fans will have been shocked to see a photo of the former England captain donned upon its front as part of their anti-smoking campaign.

Terry, who signed for Championship side Aston Villa in the summer, is still clearly annoyed to be associated in any way with Gold Flake - five years after surprisingly first discovering he was!

Along with a shot of the cigarette packet and accompanied by several angry emoji faces, he wrote on his Insta: "Disgusting from this company Gold Flake using my image on their cigarettes.

"I hate smoking!!!"

The 36-year-old Terry first realised that he was being used by the company back in 2012.

His blurred head-and-upper body shot appeared above the words 'Smoking Kills'.

His representatives confirmed at the time they would be taking legal advice as Terry had not given permission for his image to be used.

The Indian Express said KS Dhatwalia, the then additional secretary of the Directorate of Visual Publicity, had told them: "We sent the creative to the health ministry and they then cleared it and circulated it.

"But how Terry's picture got to be used is not clear."

However, another official later claimed that the image was "nothing to do with John Terry" and in fact was just a huge coincidence.

A spokesman said: "It was purely a piece of artistic imagination and I don't know why an issue is being created."

It remains unclear as to whether Terry was sharing a new image of the box or an old one.
