Liverpool latest team news: Loris Karius will replace Simon Mignolet in goal for the Champions League clash against Spartak Moscow

JURGEN KLOPP has confirmed that he will start with Loris Karius against Spartak Moscow in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old has only featured twice for the Reds so far this season with his German boss preferring to stick with Simon Mignolet between the sticks.

But after playing in their opening Euro clash against Sevilla at Anfield a fortnight ago, Karius will once again be handed an opportunity to impress in Russia.

Klopp confirmed on Monday: “Yes, Loris will start.

“I am not sure if I have to make a decision like this [the club’s ‘Champions League goalkeeper’]. It’s all about performing.

“That shouldn’t be taken as me saying, ‘You are not performing, you’re out of the goal’.

“Everyone is allowed to make mistakes or whatever, but it’s about performing in training and the games for all of our goalkeepers.

“He will play tomorrow and we will see, but Simon is the No1 and that’s the situation.”

After watching from the bench, Karius was unexpectedly given the nod for last month's bumper Premier League clash at home to Arsenal.

He kept a clean sheet as the Reds thumped Arsene Wenger's side 4-0 on Merseyside.

Karius was unable to repeat that shut-out against the Spaniards a fortnight later as the La Liga side battled to a 2-2 draw against Klopp's boys.

The Kop chief is set to name teenager Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back in place of the suspended Joe Gomez.

Meanwhile, Sadio Mane travels with the squad after serving a three-match domestic suspension for his sending-off at Manchester City.

Ben Woodburn has not been named in the travelling party and will instead play for the club's U19s against the same opposition in the Uefa Youth League.
