Wayne Rooney shows off black eye after being elbowed as Everton prepare for Europa League
Toffees captain bore his Bournemouth battle scar as he and team-mates were put through their paces in training
WAYNE ROONEY shows off his black eye in training as Everton prepare for their Europa League clash against Apollon Limassol.
The Toffees skipper was left pouring with blood after Bournemouth's Simon Francis caught him in the face with his arm.
But his battle scar does not appear to have slowed him down as Rooney looks sharp at Everton's Finch Farm training ground.
Pictures show him lunging and diving for the ball while practising his defensive skills and reactions.
Rooney, 31, was clattered by Francis towards the end of the first half against Bournemouth, when both players jumped to win a header.
Treatment during the break did not do the trick and the wound re-opened and Roo was replaced by Omar Niasse after 55 minutes.
Ronald Koeman said: "It is his arm. It is not really with intention but yes it is above his eye and [the wound] is totally open.
"The doctor said to me at half-time if it happened again we would need to change him, I changed him because we needed something different."
