Manchester United transfer news: Jose Mourinho confident of signing Mesut Ozil on a free from Arsenal next summer
Ozil is out of contract next summer with no indication he is willing to stay at Arsenal beyond this campaign and Jose Mourinho will look to persuade to atccker to stay in England
MANCHESTER UNITED believe they will sign Mesut Ozil for nothing next summer, according to reports.
The German playmaker will be able to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season, if he decides not to extend his stay at the Emirates.
The Independent claim United boss Jose Mourinho is confident of convincing Ozil to stay in the Premier League and make the controversial switch to Old Trafford.
Talks have been ongoing between Arsenal chiefs and Ozil’s representatives about a new deal at the Emirates.
However, talks have hit a brick wall and there does not look like there is a real appetite on the player’s part to commit to the Gunners long-term.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is desperate to hold on to Ozil, a player the Frenchman has defended and kept faith with despite the former Real Madrid star's performances which have polarised Arsenal and football fans at large.
If Arsenal do give up on Ozil, they could look to move him on in January to avoid the prospect of losing him and Alexis Sanchez for nothing at the end of the season.
The 28-year-old is free to sign a pre-contract with a European club from January 1, but not with another team in England.
