His efforts helped the Merseysiders to win the Premier Division 2 title last season - and also caught the attention of Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho and his talent spotters.

And now the Daily Mail are now claiming he is set to be offered a long-term contract at Goodison Park in order to thwart United's attempts to lure him to Old Trafford.

Baningime signed his first professional deal with the Toffees a year ago, but that runs out at the end of the season.

They now want to tie him down to stave off rival interest and will offer him a significant pay rise.

Everton legend David Unsworth, who is in charge of their U23s, has compared Baningime to a younger version of Chelsea star N'Golo Kante.

The youngster won the Keith Tamlin award last year after his fine displays.

And now the club will be hoping he can follow the likes of Tom Davies and establish himself in the first-team under Ronald Koeman.

He has yet to make his senior bow for the Blues but has figured for their youth side in the Football League Trophy.
