Everton boss Ronald Koeman admits he knew pressure was coming after spending big this summer… but feels calm

Toffees boss oversaw a spree of well over £100million but has guided the club to 16th after just two wins in seven games

EVERTON boss Ronald Koeman has admitted he knew pressure was on the cards after spending big this summer... but feels "calm" despite whispers he faces the sack.

The Toffees boss oversaw a spree of well over £100million in the previous window but has only guided the club to 16th after just two wins in seven games.

But Koeman told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf he knew the pressure was coming and is "calm" about the task at hand.

The ex-Southampton boss said: "I also accept that everyone is entitled to his opinion and as a coach I don’t run away from criticism.

"We know within Everton that we currently play under our level and that the results should be better.

"The moment I made the move from Southampton to a club with such ambitions, I knew I could be in a difficult situation if investments were not accompanied by results.

"I’m pretty calm with it.

"I do everything with the rest of the staff and we work even harder to get those results fast.

"I have also said in England that I’m exactly the same coach as in the past few years when it went well.

"I make sure that the feeling with the group stays good and I follow the line we used."

Koeman brought in Gylfi Sigurdsson, Michael Keane, Jordan Pickford and Davy Klaassen in mega-money deals this summer.

On top of that, Nikola Vlasic, Henry Onyekuru, Sandro Ramirez, Cuco Martina and Wayne Rooney were brought to the club to help mount a serious top-four challenge.

Yet the squad has yet to gel and has struggled to string together any consistent results, with many fearing the sale of Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United to be more debilitating then first thought.

Koeman has a case for feeling calm though, having already played big-boys Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham.
