Mendy has been recovering in Barcelona after flying out to the Spanish city to see a knee specialist. He has begun his rehabilitative treatment and faces at least four months out of action.

BENJAMIN MENDY has shared the gory images of the scars on his right-knee on social media as he recovers post-surgery in Barcelona.

The Manchester City left-back suffered a blow to the knee and ruptured his cruciate ligament just weeks into his Premier League debut and has now revealed the extent of the damage caused.

Mendy suffered the injury during a clash with Andros Townsend which prematurely ended his debut season in England.

The French international saw his chances to feature in the World Cup qualifiers diminish as he was brought to the ground in September, almost two months to the day that he signed for City.

His move from Monaco set Manchester City back £52million, the injury is therefore costly to the club and they have taken the measure of moving Fabian Delph into Mendy's vacant position.

On his Instagram page, the defender posted pictures from a Spanish rooftop as he revealed that he was sunning himself before the hard rehabilitative work began.

He shared a video detailing his relief at finally being able to scratch the scar on his right-knee now that his leg is cast free.

As well as sharing snaps from inside the private rehabilitation centre where he has already started treatment to get him back on the pitch.

Prior to suffering the injury, the 23-year-old had made five appearances for Pep Guardiola's side and was performing well alongside his expensive defensive counterparts.

Recovery is expected to take at least four months which could result in Mendy watching more games from the stand than he has participated in this season.
