Leicester transfer news: Bacary Sagna targeted by Foxes and Torino three months after Manchester City release

Craig Shakespeare considering turning up the pressure on Danny Simpson with move for experienced Frenchman

LEICESTER are considering taking a chance on former Arsenal and Manchester City defender Bacary Sagna, according to reports.

The Frenchman, 34, was one of four full-backs released by City this summer, allowing Pep Guardiola to splurge £120million on replacements Benjamin Mendy, Kyle Walker and Danilo.

Pablo Zabaleta joined West Ham, Gael Clichy moved to Turkey with Basaksehir and Aleksandar Kolarov signed for Roma.

But Sagna, who made 25 club appearances last season and featured in France's 4-1 World Cup qualifying win over Bulgaria, remains a free agent since his contract expired in June.

Brighton, Crystal Palace and West Ham were all linked with a move for the ex-Arsenal star but nothing materialised.

Danny Simpson is Leicester's first choice right-back ahead of Daniel Amartey, who has started just twice this season in the EFL Cup wins over Sheffield United and Liverpool.

The Foxes face competition from Torino should they firm up their interest in Sagna, reports the MEN.

Sagna appears to be fit and ready to go having updated his Instagram account with videos and pictures of himself training several times over the last month.

The defender moved to the Premier League with Arsenal from French club Auxerre in 2007 and won the FA Cup in 2014.

The following season he left the Emirates for City on a free transfer, where he spent three years and won the League Cup in 2016.

Sagna revealed his major regret about leaving the Etihad when he did was the fact he failed to win the Champions League.

Last term Guardiola's side were knocked out in the semi final by Real Madrid 1-0 on aggregate after defeat at the Bernabeu.

Sagna insisted: "Obviously the Champions League semi final leaves some regrets because to me we had the chance to beat Real Madrid.

"After drawing here we could have done better in the second leg. Hopefully as a team we will learn from it and hopefully the team will be better in the future."
