FORMER Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott is training with non-league side AFC Telford as he looks for another club.

The experienced defender who has 26 caps for England is a free agent after leaving Sunderland at the end of their disastrous campaign, which condemned the Black Cats to relegation to the Championship.

AFC Telford boss Rob Edwards is a former team-mate of the Brummie defender from their time at Wolves and is happy to help out as Lescott looks to keep up his fitness.

Even a move to the National league North side has not been ruled out altogether is the free agent fails to find a club.

Another old Wolves team-mate of Edwards Sylvain Ebanks-Blake is also training with club as he looks to extend his career.

Edwards told the Express and Star: “It’s beneficial to have lads with that sort of career and experience around.

“We can give a lot of information from the sidelines or in training but when there are players with real experience in the mix in there, the lads can only learn and benefit from that.

“Sylvan trained with us in the week, he is a mate of mine.

“At the moment he is obviously without a football club and I want to help him to get some fitness.

“If in turn he can help us, we’ll see, he’s a really good lad, first and foremost.

“His children go to our school, we’ll see each other on the playground most days.

“We had six to eight months together at Wolves.

“He is a good lad, lives fairly locally and wants to do some training at the moment.

“We had Joleon train with us a couple of times earlier in the season.”
