Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho was scouting Mijat Gacinovic during Serbia’s World Cup Qualifying defeat to Austria
JOSE MOURINHO was scouting wonderkid Mijat Gacinovic Serbia's 3-2 World Cup Qualifying defeat to Austria on Friday.
There was some speculation that Mourinho was checking up on young Serbian Sergej Milinkovic-Savic - but the 22-year-old has not yet had a full cap for Serbia - and was not in the squad.
And now The Mirror reports that the object of Mourinho's affections was in fact Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Gacinovic.
The 22-year-old has already become one of the most exciting prospects in the Bundesliga, with even Bayern Munich believes to be keeping a close eye on him.
On the international scene he has netted twice in three games.
Nemanja Matic played and scored for the Balkan nation in their World Cup qualifier, while Marko Arnautovic scored against the country of his descent as Austria won 3-2.
And it could be Matic who has alerted Mourinho to the talents of Gacinovic, who operates chiefly on the wing.
It was a position Mourinho seemed desperate to re-inforce at Old Trafford over the summer, with Inter Milan's Ivan Perisic believed to be their top target.
But the Croatian decided to stay in Serie A, and despite the Red Devils rumoured to have turned their attentions to Arsenal target Thomas Lemar, this also came to nought.
