Tottenham to double Harry Winks’ wages to £40,000-a-week with new contract after England debut

HARRY WINKS is set for a double-your-money new contract as he establishes himself as one of the brightest young talents in the English game.

The 21-year-old is now in the frame to be part of Gareth Southgate's squad to go to Russia next summer as the Three Lions look for more creativity in their midfield.

And his rapid progression for club and country this season is set to be rewarded by Tottenham with a new £40,000-a-week deal.

Winks only signed a five-year contract with Spurs in February after forcing his way into Mauricio Pochettino's squad on a regular basis.

But he has kicked on at club level even since then, and is now pushing to become a consistent performer each week.

Such has been his improvement in form, Spurs are now looking at increasing his wages to ensure he remains settled at the club.

Tottenham have several players who need their contracts addressing over the course of the season - with Dele Alli and Toby Alderweireld among them.

But Winks has joined that list with the club aware his current deal is not a reflection of his new-found status with club and country.

It has been a policy of the club to regularly improve the terms of contracts of emerging players who begin to make their mark at first-team level.

Both Alli and Harry Kane regularly saw their deals improved by the London club as they established themselves as important players for Pochettino.

And they are now ready to improve those terms for Winks as a sign of their growing trust in the Hemel Hempstead-born player.

Talks are expected to be easy to conclude so it could be that a new contract for Winks is sealed before any agreements are reached with Alli and Alderweireld.

The midfielder is now likely to be part of Southgate's plans for November's testing friendly double against Germany and Brazil.

The England boss is aware his current midfield options lack creativity with too many of a similar type in his group.
