Liverpool latest news: Legend John Barnes reveals why they will be too strong for Manchester United at Anfield

LIVERPOOL legend John Barnes is convinced his former side will prove too strong for Manchester United on Saturday.

The Reds are desperate to kick-start their season after a number of defensive lapses have left them seven points adrift of top spot after just seven matches.

And Barnes believes that the fixture is the ideal one for Jurgen Klopp's men due to his record against the big six.

The ex-England winger told talkSPORT: "Why I think Liverpool will win this is because of what Liverpool have demonstrated against all of the top teams, apart from Manchester City when they went down to 10 men and lost 5-0.

"They have had the upper hand against all of the top teams because of the nature of the way those games are played.

"They are very open, they are very attack-minded.

"One team attacks and leaves the defence to defend for themselves.

"If you go head to head with Liverpool rather than sitting in deep and defending in numbers to stop Mane, Salah, Firmino, you come a cropper and that is what has happened to Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham.

"If they go all-out attack against Liverpool, which they are under pressure do because they are Man United and they are top of the league, then I think Liverpool will win."

Compared to Liverpool, united have made an almost perfect start to the season.

They are second only on goal difference and have scored 21 times and conceded just two and only dropped points once in a 2-2 draw at Stoke City.

Liverpool's preparations have been rocked, however, after star Sadio Mane was ruled out of action for six weeks.

The Senegal attacker damaged his hamstring while on international duty this week.
