Wellens hopes to get the nod to become full-time boss after a winning start to his career and he is looking at naming staff.

Terry took charge of the side in a closed-doors game yesterday and would be his assistant.

Wellens knows Terry from coaching courses and it would be a return to the game for the former player who retired five years ago.

Veteran Graham Barrow is also lined up to become a senior adviser once Wellens has the all clear to take charge.

Wellens has said will be off to seek out his first manager's job if Oldham do not give him the role full-time.

But the unbeaten caretaker boss, who has phoned his old gaffer Alex Ferguson for advice, could be persuaded to stay as assistant to Clarence Seedorf.

The Dutchman, 41, who won the European Cup with three clubs plus 87 caps for his country, has been given a tour of Boundary Park, plus an interview.

Wellens, 37, said: "I think I'm ready for the job. If the club appoint Seedorf and there was a No 2 role, I'd consider that, too. But if I don't get the job, I will have to look somewhere else."

After last week's win over Peterborough, two Eoin Doyle goals — answered only by a late strike from Pompey's Brett Pitman — brought the Latics a win in their last league clash at Portsmouth on September 30.
