Crystal Palace could offload Andros Townsend to Leicester in January in order to fund new striker

CRYSTAL PALACE may be prepared to sell Andros Townsend to Leicester to help fund their capture of a much-needed striker.

The Foxes tried to sign the England winger in the summer only for Palace to reject their advances out of hand.

But the London club's position is now softening with the club finding themselves in desperate need of bringing in a new striker.

Roy Hodgson's side are currently slumped at the foot of the Premier League having failed to score in any of their first seven matches.

And according to the Mirror, Hodgson is now considering cashing in on Townsend to bring in some money to boost the cash available to spend on a forward.

Palace's lack of goalscorers has been highlighted by the knee injury to Christian Benteke that ruled him out of action for six weeks.

With Wilfried Zaha also absent through injury it left Palace playing two matches going into the international break without a recognised senior striker available.

Hodgson knows he cannot mount a realistic battle to avoid relegation if he doesn't have players capable of scoring goals available to him.

Palace have already watched Besiktas forward Cenk Tosun in action several times this season, but would need to find around £18million if they wanted to sign him.

And one way they can bring in some funds will be to cash in on Townsend, who is still regarded as a talented player with the ability to affect games.

Leicester boss Craig Shakespeare is known to be a long term admirer of Townsend, and he would love to have his speed and direct running in his squad.

Shakespeare could be willing to do business if Palace are happy to take a figure of around £10m during the transfer window.
