Southampton ace Ryan Bertrand ‘open’ to a Manchester City move if Pep Guardiola comes calling in January

RYAN BERTRAND would be "open" to a Manchester City move if Pep Guardiola comes calling in January.

City could turn to the Southampton defender in January to fill the void left by the absence of injured Benjamin Mendy.

SunSport exclusively revealed City's interest in £30million-rated Bertrand over the weekend.

And according to the Mail, the 28-year-old would be receptive to an approach from the Premier League leaders.

Guardiola's side have been in stunning form so far this term, and racked up a seven-goal victory over Stoke over the weekend.

In the meantime, former Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph has been filling in at left-back.

And while the Englishman is a useful utility man, he is not an out-and-out full back and former Chelsea man Bertrand would fit the role more naturally.

Bertrand also has experience of winning the Champions League with the Blues in 2012, starting the final against Bayern Munich, but further up the pitch ahead of Ashley Cole.

Saints have had one heck of a battle over the summer to keep defender Virgil van Dijk at the club, after the Dutchman angled for a move away to Liverpool.

But the club held firm in the end and kept the Reds at bay, while their centre-back stayed put.

Van Dijk is now back in the first team after an injury that kept him out from January.

Guardiola said recently: "We will see if we can add players in January.

"The problem we have is the Mendy injury."
