Boring, boring Jose

Jose Mourinho’s teams have scored just ONCE in their last nine games away to ‘top six’ opposition during his time at Manchester United and Chelsea

Portuguese boss has failed to lead either of his teams to victory when travelling away to big opponents in recent years

JOSE MOURINHO did what he does best when he took his Manchester United to Liverpool on Saturday... parking the bus.

The Old Trafford chief, 54, has become famous around the globe for piling men behind the ball on the road to a "top six" opponent.

Whether it be Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham or Chelsea, Mourinho seemingly never has the confidence to go all-out for the win.

It was something of a surprising move from Mourinho this weekend, though, as his rampant United squad looked to keep up their good form against a Reds side lacking in confidence and struggling for consistency.

In the game at Anfield, Liverpool earned a staggering 62 per cent of possession, while unleashing 19 shots to United's paltry total of six, in a drab 0-0 draw.

In fact, Mourinho's men hit the target just ONCE and even earned just three corners in the 90 minutes, clearly demonstrating their defensive mindset.

Mourinho was evidently happy with the result too, saying after the game: "A point, in this long marathon? A point at Anfield is OK."

However, the so-called "Special One" has no reason whatsoever to be so thrilled with his side's point.

After all, Mourinho has NEVER won in his last nine matches away to the "Big Six" opponents, scoring just ONCE in that run.

The span incorporates his time at both Chelsea (two games) and United (seven), but regardless of club, the results are always the same.

During those nine games, Mourinho's teams have averaged just 42.9 per cent of possession per game and a meagre 2.3 shots on target per outing.

The one goal the Portuguese chief has overseen in the dreary nine-game span came in the 2-1 defeat to Tottenham in May 2017.

Of the nine games, an outrageously tedious FIVE have been 0-0 draws - while he has suffered some big defeats, including a 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Chelsea in October 2016.
