ACCESS DENIED

Liverpool ace Roberto Firmino was DENIED access into Maribor’s stadium before their historic Champions League win

Eagle-eyed security at the Ljudski Stadium refused to let the Brazilian striker in upon arrival for one very simple reason

ROBERT FIRMINO and his Liverpool side enjoyed a superb night at Maribor on Tuesday - except for one embarrassing moment pre-match.

The Brazilian star was making his way from the team coach into the Ljudski Vrt ground when he was stopped by stadium officials.

Bemused Firmino looked stunned - but he quickly realised he had left his player identification on the team bus.

Fortunately he quickly scampered back to the coach to get his ID.

And moments later he returned with a huge smile on his face and managed to gain access past the eagle-eyed security woman.

Liverpool tweeted out a clip of the incident and along with the caption: "No ID? No entry. Even if you are Robert Firmino."

Luckily for Jurgen Klopp and the Reds the 26-year-old was not as forgetful when it came to remembering where the net was.

It took him just four minutes to break the deadlock in the Champions League clash before adding a second shortly after half time.

And that set Liverpool on their way to a record-breaking 7-0 victory over the Slovenian side.

That result ensured a biggest-ever away win by an English side in the history of the European Cup.

It also took Firmino's tally to six goals in 13 matches for the Merseysiders this campaign.

Klopp will now be hoping his former Hoffenheim man can add to his tally against Tottenham at Wembley on Sunday.

Meanwhile, last night's triumph was Liverpool's first away from Anfield in the Champions League since 2009 when they defeated Debrecen.

The results in Group E mean Klopp's men are now top after recording their first European win this season.

Next up for the Kop boys is a home clash against last night's opponents in a fortnight followed by a trip to Spain to tackle Sevilla.

They conclude the first round of the competition against Spartak Moscow at home on Wednesday 6 December.
