Mesut Ozil ‘makes impression he’s annoyed at Arsenal’, claims legend Robert Pires

Gunners seeking to offload German in January transfer window and Pires claims he looks like a player unhappy with life at the club

ROBERT PIRES has claimed Mesut Ozil looks like a player who is angry with life at Arsenal.

Ozil's future at the Emirates is in doubt with Arsenal seriously considering trying to sell him in the January transfer window.

The German World Cup star has been in poor form in a season blighted by niggling injuries as he runs down the last year of his contract.

And former Gunners star Pires, one of the key men in the Invincibles side, believes Ozil is far from happy with his lot at the club.

Pires still trains with Arsenal from time to time, and has close-hand knowledge of how Ozil is around the club.

And he says the failure to sign any players apart from Alexandre Lacazette last summer has had an impact on the midfielder's attitude.

Speaking to ESPN, Pires said: "Ozil is a warrior who wants to win something, and currently he makes the impression that he's annoyed Arsenal have not assembled a squad which can win something.

"They only spent money on Alexandre Lacazette. That's not enough to compete for the top spots."

Ozil came under fire for his failure to track back defensively in the build-up top Watford's late goal that secured a 2-1 win over the Gunners last week.

That defeat leaves Arsene Wenger's nine points adrift of leaders Manchester City - already a huge gap to make up at this stage of the season.

Pires says the critics of Wenger and Arsenal do not realise how hard it is to continually maintain a challenge at the top.

But he insists his former mentor is still the right man to be in charge of the North London club.

Pires added: "It's incredibly difficult to consistently remain at the top in England," he said.

"But I still believe in Arsenal and first of all in Arsene Wenger. I think it's right he penned a new two-year deal."
