Everton players set to be called on by police to be witnesses over fan punch on Lyon goalkeeper
Supporter, holding a young child at the time, was seen launching a series of blows on Anthony Lopes during brawl
EVERTON players are set to be called on by police to be witnesses over the punches thrown by a fan at Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes.
The Toffees supporter, holding a young child at the time, was seen launching a series of blows on the Portuguese No1 during the chaos at Goodison Park.
The brawl Goodison Park ensued after Ashley Williams appeared to catch Lopes with his forearm - sparking a mass scrap on the pitch.
Everton were horrified by the scenes and said in a statement they would be taking the strongest possible action against the fan.
Meanwhile, Uefa said they had opened disciplinary proceedings against the club, with a November 16 hearing on the cards.
Toffees players may now be called as witnesses to the violence from the angry fan.
The second-half melee was sparked after Toffees captain Williams appeared to smash his forearm into Lopes’ stomach, sending him crashing into advertising boards.
Players brawled in front of the crowd as fans in the stand — including the child-carrying dad — dashed to get involved and started lashing out.
He TWICE hit Lopes in the face, while Williams threw TWO punches and striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin grabbed defender Kenny Tete by the throat.
Even young goalkeeper Jordan Pickford sprinted the length of the pitch to join in.
