Manchester City have marked John Motson’s final game at the Etihad by giving him his own custom-made branded sheepskin coat

The veteran BBC commentator will call time on his career after 50 years, and his last visit to Eastlands will be to watch the Citizens face Burnley

JOHN MOTSON has been presented with his own custom-made blue sheepskin coat by Manchester City in his final game at the Etihad.

The veteran BBC commentator will call time on speaking behind the microphone after 50 years at the end of the season.

Motson's iconic voice has become synonymous with Match of the Day, and he is never seen without his famous sheepskin coat.

The 72-year-old, who once described the Citizens' 5-2 win over Tottenham at Maine Road in 1994 as one of the best game's he has ever witnessed, was given his gift prior to City's clash with Burnley.

Former City star Mike Summerbee and Life President Bernard Halford awarded 'Motty' with his present, with the England international paying tribute to the legend.

The First Division champions and FA Cup winner said: "It will be strange watching Match of the Day and not hearing John’s voice.

"He’s part of football folklore in England and it’s a measure of his longevity that he commentated while I was playing!

"We, as a Club, wanted to mark his last commentary game at the Etihad and I’m sure when we next have a blizzard, he’ll put it on and think of City!”

Pep Guardiola's side paid tribute to Motson on their website, they said: "Though he isn’t retiring until the end of the season, everyone at Manchester City wishes Motty the very best for the future."

Motson, OBE, has commentated over 1,500 games, and has covered ten World Cups, 29 FA Cup finals, ten European Championships and over 200 England matches.
