Argentina striker fired home the milestone goal from the penalty spot after Bernardo Silva went down in the box on 29 minutes
SERGIO AGUERO wrote his name into the Manchester City record books as he became the club's joint leading goalscorer of all-time.
The Etihad hero stroked home a first half spot-kick to go level with Eric Brook on 177 - a record that has stood for 78 years.
Yet the award of the spot-kick - for a foul on Bernardo Silva - was controversial and left Burnley fuming.
However it set Pep Guardiola's men for an 11th straight win - the first time the club has done that in a single season.
Burnley were a massive 25-1 to win here with some bookies - the longest odds ever in a Premier League game.
Yet the Clarets had an early chance as Chris Wood bundled his way through and Ederson Moraes had to dive at the feet of Scott Arfield.

The big Kiwi got injured in the collision and had to be replaced by Ashley Barnes - a real blow for Sean Dyche and the Clarets.
Unusually City were taking a while to get going but they did have one chance when Leroy Sane pulled back for Bernardo Silva but his shot was straight at Nick Pope.
The Burnley keeper was at the centre of things again on the half hour as he kept out Kevin de Bruyne as he raced into the area.
The ball broke for Bernardo Silva who went over under a challenge from Pope - with referee Roger East pointing to the spot.
Replays showed it was a soft one and the visitors were fuming but up stepped Aguero and sent the keeper the wrong way.
The Argentine missed one at the same end against Shakhtar Donetsk last month - it has been a long wait for him to get the goal he needed.
Aguero had chances to go on and beat the record before half-time but on both occasions he was denied by Pope.
MANCHESTER CITY should not have been awarded a penalty against Burnley. Bernardo Silva initiated the contact with Nick Pope and then threw himself to the ground.
Silva does not go down straight away and even changes his stride to put the dive in.
This is clear simulation and he has deceived referee Roger East.
It’s something the FA retrospective panel should be looking at.
Players are taking no notice of the new rule on simulation and Silva must serve a two-match ban.
One of them fell at the feet of Bernardo but his effort was heroically blocked by James Tarkowski.
The Clarets defended superbly and frustrated the home side, who have been in such superb goal-scoring form in recent weeks.
But they had daylight when Nicolas Otamendi's thumping header from Sane's corner just squirmed through the legs of Steven Defour on the line.
And minutes later a trademark De Bruyne pass sent Sane racing clear to finsih emphatically and put the result beyond any doubt.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said: “Burnley have won in amazing stages this season.
"In the second half it was amazing how good we played. A lot of control and after the second and third goal the game is over. I'm so happy to continue our winning mentality.
"Aguero should pay a tribute to us, he should invite us to dinner maybe. One more goal, it's going to happen sooner or later.
"Another clean sheet is so important. We have the ability to score a lot of goals. We had a lot of chances and the keeper made some good saves. We were stable in front and back."
On equalling a club record of 11-straight wins: "The record is good if you lift something, titles or a trophy. It means a lot. Of course it is not easy to win 11 in a row, so it's good."
Burnley boss Sean Dyche said: "They are fantastic at the moment and playing with confidence so you know it will be a tough day.
"You have to get everything right. Some things got away from us, certainly the referee's decisions.
"We stuck at it but not enough. It's not a place you can come and expose your team. We tried to press the keeper when we could but they now have a keeper who can kick the length of the pitch.
“City now have a better mixture and they can play football but can also turn you. A much better mixture. We know we are still learning. Some if these clubs are the finished product."
