Arsenal prepare to offer Jack Wilshere a new contract, as Chelsea and Manchester City consider swoop for the midfielder

Gunners star has enjoyed a superb return to form at the North London club, but his current deal runs out in the summer

ARSENAL are preparing to offer Jack Wilshere a new contract, as Chelsea and Manchester City consider a swoop for the midfielder.

The Gunners star, 25, has enjoyed a superb return to form in North London after coming back from yet another injury, sustained while on loan at Bournemouth last season.

However, Wilshere's current contract runs out in the summer, meaning he could leave the Emirates for nothing on July 1.

Clubs would also be able to commence pre-contract negotiations in January.

Now, Arsenal are reportedly racing to tie down Wilshere to a fresh long-term deal as he has once again shown his ability to bounce back from injury.

On top of that, Arsene Wenger and Co have all but accepted they will lose Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.

The two Gunners stars are also in the final year of their contracts and have no intention of penning new deals.

Wenger may now look to cash-in on the two players in cut-price deals in the January transfer window, to avoid losing his best two players for nothing.

Arsenal are seemingly confident of keeping hold of Wilshere though, who is now also expected to be named in Gareth Southgate's England World Cup squad.

The 34-cap international is now pushing to nail down a spot in the Gunners first-team, starting against Everton on Sunday, followed by Tuesday's Carabao Cup clash with Norwich.

Everton and Roma are just two clubs to have expressed an interest in Wilshere in recent months.

However, Man City and Chelsea are currently leading the race should the England ace not be offered a new deal.

Both clubs have been plagued by injuries and could sorely use an influx of home-grown players to boost their quota.

While Wilshere has played just 72 times for club and country since 2014, he still boasts a tantalising blend of skill, youth and experience.

The Arsenal lad will now be hoping to make it into England's squad for the high-profile friendlies against Germany and Brazil in November.
