Man City cannot match Arsenal Invincibles and go unbeaten says Pep Guardiola

Ex-Barca boss said: To have this kind of statistic is ridiculous because football today is so demanding

PEP GUARDIOLA says there is no chance his Manchester City can be the next Invincibles.

Table-topping City are the only unbeaten side in the Premier League after nine matches — and moved five points clear with Saturday’s 3-0 defeat of Burnley.

Arsenal claimed the title of Invincibles after going through the  2003-04 Prem campaign without losing.

And while free-scoring City have rarely looked like slipping up so far, Guardiola is convinced it will not continue through to May.

The Etihad chief said: “I am here to win the next one, then the next one and then in May we can say how was the season.

“But if you ask me if we can finish unbeaten, I say that cannot happen.

“To have this kind of statistic is ridiculous because football today is so demanding.

“We know when we don’t play good we are going to lose.

"It doesn’t make any difference if the other team is not in the top five or six, any team can beat us.”

Sergio Aguero became Manchester City’s equal record goalscorer with this penalty against Burnley - should the penalty have been given?

City have matches against West Brom and Arsenal before the next international break.

And Guardiola says he is looking forward to seeing how his players react when they do drop points.

He added: “There are a lot of games, a lot of competition and we focus every three days but there will be a moment when we go down.

“I am curious to test myself and the players on how we react to that because sometimes we must be warriors.

“All we can do in every game is to play as good as possible to deserve the respect of the opponents and the respect of others.

“Then they can look at us and say, ‘That team does a lot of good things on the pitch’.

"That’s all we want and all we seek.”
